It is sometime known as ‘female ginseng.’
It is still used often in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where it is usually combined with other herbs. TCM Practitioners often prescribe dong quai to treat women’s reproductive problems, such as dysmenorrhea or painful menstruation, and to improve blood flow.
It is an excellent blood tonic and used regularly it will help normalise oestrogen levels. The cobalt in dong quai helps to increase haemoglobin levels, which in turn reduces anaemia.
It has been indicated for these conditions:
- Absence of menstruation
- As a uterine decongestant
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- Premature ejaculation
It is believed to help retain your youthful glow as well as increasing female fertility.
