Description

Agrimony is most used in modern herbal practice as a mild astringent and a tonic. Agrimony is approved by the German E Commission for internal use for mild, nonspecific, acute diarrhoea and inflammation of oral and pharyngeal mucosa (sore throat). The dried, above-ground parts can be used as a skin wash to treat skin inflammation and irritations.

It strengthens and heals the gut linings, as well as toning the tissues. Being slightly bitter it draws energy down, as well as stimulating gastric juices, liver and pancreas. We add agrimony to our Simplici Tea to act as an all-round tonic for digestion.

Agrimony is most used in modern herbal practice as a mild astringent and a tonic. Agrimony’s astringency is effective against diarrhoea, especially in small children, and because of its low toxicity, the herb is particularly suitable for children’s illnesses.

Agrimony stops irritation of the urinary tract that may increase a child’s urge to urinate and, therefore, may be useful in the treatment of bladder leakage and bed wetting. Sip a cup of Agrimony tea slowly before retiring to bed.

Agrimony contains beneficial active compounds including catechin – a water soluble polyphenol and antioxidant and thiamine – a water soluble B vitamin. It also contains quercetin an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that is also the source of its yellow pigmentation. Agrimony contains the complex polyphenol tannin. This bitter plant compound is a natural astringent.
